UNAIR NEWS – Inspired by a Japanese literary work, Anne Alicia Wulung, S.Hum, conducted a study titled “Power Domination in Toshokan Kiki by Arikawa Hiro: A Gramsci Hegemony Study”. From the study, Anne was named the best graduate of Faculty of Humanities bachelor program Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) for September 2016 graduation with GPA 3.97.
In her study, the woman born on December 27, 1993 found a problem which made her study interesting. First, the interesting romance in the series of Toshokan Sensou, but also the view of ideal Japanese among the conflicting parties. Second, the intellectual conflict between the Library Corps and Media Reformation Committee to realize ideal Japan from each group point of view.
From the conflict in the story, there were efforst made by each party to dominate by getting a consensus from the community of ideal Japan. Based on the problem, according to Anne, Toshokan Kiki novel was interesting to study with Gramsci Hegemony Theory.
“In the conflict and effort of acquiring power, there is always a dominating party and a dominated one. In the series, there is a power connection between the conflicting parties. The conflict causes two different paths, violence and a compact,” she said.
During her study, Anne did not find any difficulties. She was supported by her supervising lecture and she finished it.”I could finish my thesis because of helps, supports, and assistance of my supervising lecturer who spare their extra time and power to support me,” said the HIMA activist.
In the future, she hoped that she could develop her research into more complex study. She encouraged and motivated UNAIR students to finish their study. “Use your time and opportunity wisely. Graduated on time or at the right time,” she said. (*)
