UNAIR NEWS – Surya Darma Kardeli was named as the best graduate of Faculty of Law  Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) as he had the highest GPA 3.89. His thesis supported his achievement was quite actual, “Legal Protection for Civil Servant to Participate in Regional Elections as Independent Candidate”.

He chose the topic on the legal protection on civil servants’ rights who participate in Regional Elections as independent candidate. In Law number 5/2014 on State Civil Apparatus (ASN) Article 119 and Article 123 section 3 oblige the civil servants participating in regional elections to resign officially for the election. Furthermore the article was elaboration of other article which says that the civil servant should be dismissed from their position if they become a member or official of political parties.

During his master study, Surya admitted that he was not active beside in academic study. He often attended seminars, FGDs, advocacy class, and other academic activities. The man born in padang, April 19, 1990 has ever won a paper competition during his bachelor program in Law Recht Partij  held in UIN Sunan Gunung Djati, Bandung. Now, it was a great achievement as he could be the best graduate of S2 FH UNAIR.

“In Master program of Law FH UNAIR, the learning system was well structured and which was also important, the academicians of FH UNAIR were friendly and generous regarding sharing knowledge. They always motivated and looked after all the students,” he said.

He said that his master study success could not be separated from his supervising lecturer, Dr. Lanny Ramli, S.H., M.Hum. After graduation, he went back to Padang to be a lecturer as he always dreamed of. “From the start, we should have target and be consistent to achieve it,” said  the man who is now  a member of Finance Training and Supervisory Agency PW Muhammadiyah West Sumatera.
