UNAIR NEWS – Students of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) affiliated with Birds Veterinary Professional Interest Group (KMPV) distributed  thousands of chicken eggs and satay.  Collaborating with PT. Cargill Indonesia and Ceva Logistics, they held the annual event titled “Chicken and Eggs Festival” on Sunday, October 2. The event was held to celebrate the National Chicken and Eggs Day.

Hundreds of people including the locals near campus visited the festival held by the lake of Campus C UNAIR. Less than an hour, 750 coupons were redeemed to get the eggs and satay.

“We never expected the enthusiasm of the locals to come here. This is annual event. We made Indonesian map out of eggs in 2013. In 2015, we held an event in the City Hall of Surabaya. This year, our theme is culinary festival and the visitors were a lot more that previous years,” said Rizka Mulia Ananda  of the festival commitee.

The festival was opened symbolically by committee, Cargill and Ceva parties by eating boiled eggs at seven o’clock. After being opened, the visitors hurried and queued to redeem their coupons with eggs and satay. They queued to get a package of eggs and some satay.

The event was not crowded by the locals near UNAIR, but there were also UNAIR students who want to have free breakfast that morning. “I just got a rolled egg as I didn’t get the coupon. I had come very early for it but there were more people coming even earlier,” said Diva Amalia, a student of Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) 2013.

Beside culinary festival, the committee also provided useful information for the community on the egg and chicken nutrition especially when Indonesia has a lot of them in quantity. “Education to the community is needed to change the mindset which says that consuming eggs and chicken is dangerous. It is caused by the issue that says the sellers injected hormones to the chicken,” added Rizka who is also FKH UNAIR student.

Festival of Chicken and Eggs Day held in UNAIR was the closing event of previous events held by KMPV FKH UNAIR. They held a campaign during Car Free Day on Sunday September 25, in Taman Bungkul. The event continued with social event in Khaudatul Jannah Orphanage on Saturday, October 1, and boiled eggs distribution to academicians in all faculties of UNAIR and FKH  Universitas Wijaya Kusuma Surabaya.
