Welcoming Islamic New Year with Positive Campaign

UNAIR NEWS – In order to welcome Islamic New Year, Islamic Religious Club (UKM-KI) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) held some events titled “Milad Tahun Hijriah”. The event ran well in Campus C, on Saturday and Sunday, October 1-2.

The theme was “Rise for Glory, Building Civilization of Indonesia”. There were various spiritual events for students, such as religious gathering which campaign National Congregated Dawn Prayer Movement (GSJN) with a sermon by Bustomi as the political expert and alumnus of UNAIR International Relations on Saturday evening, October 1.

Arif Fatchurahman, the Head of Student Executive Board (BEM) UNAIR 2010-2011 gave the same topic of discussion on Sunday morning after the dawn prayer. Then, the event continued with an educational campaign of Islamic New Year held in Campus C lake, UNAIR after Asr prayer.

GSJN was a movement to make students pray Fajr together in the mosque. After the prayer, there was a motivating discussion for students on Islam.

Then, UKM-KI held a campaign through motivation book and stickers’ distribution to welcome Islamic New Year. The campaign was held at 3 o’clock in the afternoon while the locals enjoying the lake view with family. The campaign was responded positively either from students or general public.

“Basically years will keep changing. Not only of the Gregorian calendar which gives moment of transformation but also the Islamic one which is a moment to rise our youth spirits,” said Ahmad Mubarok, Head of UKMKI.

With the event, hopefully, the essence of Islamic new year was an important moment of self reflection as our community participation was quite low for the importance of this moment especially for students who want to be better and make achievements. (*)
