UNAIR Athletes Win Silver in Land and Water Sports

UNAIR NEWS – Athletes from Universitas Airlangga representing East Java keeps gaining reputation for their alma mater and their province. Achievements have been made by students of UNAIR competing in National Games (PON) XIX West Java.

They are Aditya Aditya Aulia Rahman, a student of Faculty of Psychology and Arsinta Rahadianty Krisna of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP). Aditya in men softball team of East Java won a silver while Arsinta with her team won a silver on team free routine in synchronized swimming.

In final, the men team of East Java was defeated by North Sulawesi team with 4-6 score. “The final game was so tight, we lost on the ball hits. Their hits were nice and neat,” said Aditya.

Even though he did not made it for the gold, the student of Psychology 2012 was still grateful and glad as he could contribute to gain reputation for East Java in the final round.
So was Arsinta, the student of International Relations 2014 was proud to be able to get a silver medal for East Java. Even though she has not been able to get gold, she had great impressions on the competition.

A lot of lessons and virtues I could get from this PON. The nervousness is always there but with supports of team and people close to us, tension and nervousness can be handled. Relief was the first thing I felt,” said Arsinta.

“Finally, it’s over,” added Arsinta whose game was on September 24 in Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI).

Before PON, Arsinta and team had routine training for 5 or 7 hours. Like amphibians they trained their physical and mental on land and in the water. There was a constant support from East Java’s National Sports Committee (KONI).

“KONI Jatim provided complete facilities, from health, nutrition, psychologist and many others. KONI Jatim also gave military training to prepare mentally and physically. We joined the training camp for the last two months before the competition,” said Arsinta. (*)
