Inaugurated, 93 Midwives Ready to Serve in Society

UNAIR NEWS – Faculty of Medicine (FK) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) graduated its new midwives. There were 93 midwives of Midwifery program FK UNAIR inaugurated and their oath taken by Dean of FK UNAIR on Tuesday, September 27 in FK Hall.

The proceeding was attended by Dean of FK UNAIR Prof. Soetojo, dr., Sp.U, Vice Rector IV Junaidi Khotib, S.Si., Apt., M.Kes., Ph.D, Vice Director of Medical Service General Hospital Dr. Soetomo Dr. Joni Wahyuhadi, dr., Sp.BS., Director of UNAIR Hospital Prof. Dr. Nasronudin, dr., Sp.PD., K-PTI, FINASIM, faculty staffs and coordinator of Midwifery program.

In his speech, Joni said two things important to remember by the midwives. First, professional standards. Second, service standard procedures. “Don’t forget RSUD Dr. Soetomo, we open our doors widely if some want to serve in RSUD Dr. Soetomo,” he said followed with applause of the audience.

Dean of FK UNAIR in his speech informed that midwives are still limited. “Indonesia has more than 250 million population and half of them are women. But, there are limited midwives and even in some regions there are no midwives at all. Therefore, midwives are included as one of the profession in MEA blueprint,” he said. “And UNAIR graduates must be wanted and no one will be jobless,” said Prof. Soetojo.

In the occasion, Vice Rector IV UNAIR encouraged the midwives to always be ready to work with other medical staffs. “I hope with this new medical staff, health problems in the society can be dealth with,” said Junaidi.

Lutfiana Khusiani Utami, the representative of the midwives expressed her gratitude to all elements which support the learning process. “Hopefully all midwives inaugurated today can serve well in society as for them we are the light of hope especially for mothers and infants,” said Lutfi.

With their inauguration, the number of midwives graduated by FK UNAIR reached 439 people since 2008. (*)
