UNAIR NEWS – One of the athletes of East Java in National Games (PON) XIX for shooting was Whidda Andria Ristyanto. Whidda succeeded in winning a gold medal for shooting games held in Cisangkan shooting range, Cimahi, West Java on September 21.
Whidda is a student of Islamic Economics, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) 2014. He made it to defeat the contingents of West Java, West Nusa Tenggara, Bali, Central Java and South Kalimantan in the final round of 10 meter air pistol standard team. His score reached 1654 points.
His achievement to get gold could not be separated from efforts he made prior to the event. “During pre-competition training in Jakarta, my gun malfunctioned. But Alhamdulillah it could be fixed and I used it without any problems,” said Whidda contacted by UNAIR NEWS on Friday, September 30.
Whidda admitted that he has prepared for PON XIX for a year since he participated in National Championship JABAR Open. During the competition, he won a silver so he could join the regional training camp.
Whidda was grateful with his success getting a gold in PON XIX as his hardwork finally came into fruition, not only for himself but also for his family, university and East Java. He expressed his gratitude to all people who supported him especially his parents and coach.
“Alhamdulillah I’m grateful and happy that I could make my parents, teachers, lecturers, friend, alma mater proud and especially for being able to get gold for East Java,” he said. (*)
