UNAIR NEWS – Limitation on transportation with no license in possession was not an obstacle for Nadia Rohmatul Laili, M.Kep to finish her study in master program Faculty of Nursing (FKp) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR). She was even named as the best graduate in September 2016 graduation with GPA 3.98.
With ojek online application available, she collected data of her research from all community health centers (Puskesmas) of Surabaya. She only needed seven weeks to collect the data. Nadia looked for ojek rider who was willing to take her to places for months. A rider accepted the job, so he became Nadia’s partner along the way during her data collection.
“I gave him the list of all health centers in Surabaya with their address, he decided which one to visit first. He sometimes even reminded me on my appointment with certain head of health center, the day and the time. So beside getting a rider, I felt like I got a research assistant too,” she said.
Regarding her thesis, Nadia studied about “Nurse Behavior in Implementation of Diabetes Mellitus Education Based on Theory of Planned Behavior”. She elaborated the treatment made during the education on Diabetes Mellitus by the nurse of all health centers in Surabaya, which are 62 in total.
Her efforts and hard work finally paid off well. She got A for her thesis. The girl from Sidoarjo admitted that her intention, commitment and discipline were important to achieve her success. “Every time I have an assignment or a test, I always make promises to myself on when I must do it, when I must study and how I have must do it,” she said.
For her achievement as the best graduate, Nadia was happy that she could make her parents pleased. She wants to be an academician, so she focused on Diabetes Mellitus research she worked on since the bachelor degree. “I want to express my gratitude to my parents, lecturers and friends who have motivated and supported me for the thesis. I want to say thank you also to the ojek rider, who could be my partner of discussion even though he did not have any nursing backgrounds,” she said proudly. (*)
