UNAIR NEWS – To reinforce the veterinary authority institution, Veterinary Medicine Student Association (IMAKAHI) Universitas Airlangga held ”Special Review: Reinforcing Veterinarian Profession in Veterinary Authority Institution” on Saturday, September 24, in Tandjung Adiwinata Room, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH) UNAIR.
In the review, there were four speakers elaborating the topics of discussion, General Directorate of Animal Husbandry and Health of Ministry of Agriculture Prabowo Respatiyo Caturroso, drh., M.M., Ph.D, lecturer of FKH UNAIR Iwan Syahrial Hamid, M.Si., drh, representative of Indonesian Veterinarian Association of East Java Region Ina Nurani, drh.
According to the head of the committee, Bayu Aji Prasojo, the event was held as a response of problem of limited veterinarians, as well as to motivate the FKH students. “I hope that this event can inspire the future vets and the vets to work for animal health and human prosperity,” said Bayu.
In her exposition, Ina said that animal diseases’ transmission to human (zoonosis) is also the responsibility of veterinarians. Therefore, veterinarians have two responsibilities, handling the animals and the people around them. “So, the health of people is also one of the vets’ responsibilities,” said the representative of PDHI Jatim.
In addition to Ina’s statements, Prabowo also explained that the condition of national animals’ health is less from optimal. “Current condition showed less optimal handling on animals’ health veterinary authority,” he said.
In the end of the event, Ahmad Kurniawan, drh., as the moderator said that veterinarians’ professionalism is challenged on its network, creativity and innovation. Therefore, Ahmad suggested to the attending students to build network through organizations as vast as possible so each individual can compete each other to be the best based on their creativity and innovations.
“So, through the networking, the winners will have creativity and innovation,” said Ahmad. (*)
