UNAIR NEWS – Following the success of Professors’ Innovation Exposition themed “Stem Cell: New Hope for Better Life”, Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) is going to hold another similar event with different theme. This time it is going to discuss the issue of tax amnesty.

As stated by the Head of Planning and Development Board (BPP) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) Badri Munir Sukoco, Ph.D, the professors’ innovation exposition is aimed to show UNAIR professors’ concern for the society. Hopefully, UNAIR professors can contribute with their ideas to solve the problems in the society.
The seminar titled: “Tax Amnesty: Between Hopes and Reality” is inviting UNAIR officials, students and lecturers of economics faculty in Surabaya, head of agencies in East Java, businessmen, Indonesian Businesswomen Association (IWAPI) Surabaya and public figures who shared their economic and taxation interests.
Tax Amnesty is currently under the spotlight especially among the economic communities. The Tax Amnesty Law numbered UU 11/2016 was enacted by the House of Representatives (DPR) and valid as of July 1, 2016. It is still relevant to discuss as it involves the publicization of tax policy to the society.
As we all know, Tax Amnesty policy was issued to normalize the state treasury but there were some pros and cons in its implementation. The pros believed that the policy indeed normalize the state treasury, but the cons assume that the executive measure was only to give benefits to the big businessmen. Therefore, the secretary of Information and Public Relations Center (PIH) UNAIR said that Tax Amnesty is relevant as the topic of the experts and public discussion.
“UNAIR as more neutral education institution, has experts to comment on the pros and cons of tax amnesty. UNAIR wants to contribute in the matter of pros and cons of this tax amnesty,” Bimo said.
In response to the matter, Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) is taking part in understanding the good and the bad of this Tax Amnesty policy as well as in contributing on supporting the policy so that it will not cause negative effects. The issue is not only about one field but it involves a lot of aspects such as economic, social, political and legal aspects. (*)
