UNAIR NEWS – To improve the quality and prepare the students on food handling, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine (FPK) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) held “Food Handling Certification on Food Business”. The exam was held in collaboration with Professional Certification Board of Food Safety Quality Assurance (LSP JMKP).
The certification exam was held from Tuesday, August 16 to Friday, September 9. The exam was held gradually, from written tests, interviews and practical exam. Overall, the exam was taken by 160 students from some faculties related to food management, such as Fishery Product Industrial Engineering, Water Management, Public Health, Nutritions, Hospitality and Tourism.
Vice Dean I FPK UNAIR Dr. Ir. Endang Dewi Masithah, M. P. said that the objective of this certification for UNAIR students is to prepare the graduates with certified competence.
“So the students can improve its competitiveness and mobility in the global world, acknowledgement on resources competence, the graduates’ career prospects, confidence and pride, also to improve protection and prosperity of human resources,” said Endang.
Through the certification, Endang hoped that UNAIR can develop many competence scheme on established LSP. The objective was to facilitate students of UNAIR who needs competence certification. She hoped that the government keeps improving similar programs for the students.
“Expectation to the government to improve competence certification subsidized programs similar to this one as a form of protection to the citizens,” she said.
Assessor of the certification was Dewi Woro dari LSP JMKP. Dewi said that there are four methods assessed during certification. “There are four methods on assessing the certification, written test on case studies and multiple choice problems, also oral test in forms of interviews and practical work. If the questions aren’t answered during written test, then we asked them to the interview,” said Dewi.
Certificates issued are valid for two years. Hafiz as the alumni of FPK, who was also contributed for the certification, said that the objective was to give assurance on the ggraduates’ competence, such as on handling food on food business, also on bio-material handling. It is closely related to the program which was just opened in 2015, Fishery Product Industrial Engineering.
“We can’t deny that fishery product is food source product, therefore our graduates in FPK are expected to have the competence to handle food products,” said Hafiz. (*)
