UNAIR NEWS – Strengthening research network at international level is a way to reinforce international collaborations and publications’ quantity. The network was established as a research consortium started by establishing forums of graduates abroad.

Universitas Airlangga currently keeps boosting its publications either at national or international level. To support the research and publications, a research consortium was established with researchers of other universities abroad.

According to Vice Rector III UNAIR Prof. Ir. M. Amin Alamsjah, Ph.D., one way to carry out the plan of research consortium is by gathering UNAIR lecturers graduated from universities abroad. So their potentials can be exploited to expand and reinforce network for research and publication collaborations.

“When we are in the position to discuss international publications either on research or community service, we should move the research consortium. And I see UNAIR’s potentials on that. After being analysed, from 1600 lecturers, some of them were graduated from universities abroad, either master or doctoral degrees. So we can gather them based on their regions or countries,” said Prof. Amin.

Lecturers graduated abroad will be gathered based on their university region. There are Europe, America, Asia, and Australia. From those regions, two coordinators have been chosen as coordinator and its deputy. The lecturers are expected to coordinate intensively, discuss potential research between UNAIR with their former universities abroad.

In 2017, the member of the forum will be asked to hand in research or community service proposals to the UNAIR mandatory research review team. For proposals selected will be funded World Class University (WCU) or Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education’s funds. The teams who propose a research, must have research partners abroad, collaborate and prepare the research umbrella.

Teams which are funded will aim to publish their research and community service in reputable international journals.

“For the community service, teams are obliged to publish five international research publication for each activity. For example, a lecturer of Psychology Faculty intensely collaborating with Australian researchers to hold developmental event for kids with autism. That is very good and it could be used as community service at international level,” added Prof. Amin. (*)
