UNAIR NEWS – Rector of Universitas Airlangga affirmed 1,506 freshmen of postgraduate programs. The affirmation of the new academic year was held in Airlangga Convention Center and attended by all the freshmen.
From their educational degrees, there were 1,003 master program students, 243 doctoral students, 12 of professional programs and 240 specialists and 8 sub specialists students. The affirmation was also attended by Minister of Education and Culture term 2009 – 2014 Prof. Dr. Ir. KH. Mohammad Nuh, DEA. The man known as Nuh presented his scientific oration titled “Peran Serta Perguruan Tinggi untuk Mencetak Pimpinan Negara yang Berintegritas (Contribution of Universities to Produce National Leaders with Integrity)”.
In his official address, UNAIR Rector Prof. Dr. H. Mohammad Nasih, MT., SE., Ak, CMA said that, this affirmation was a new day of the students’ lives. Being postgraduate students, they should learn 24 hours as all of their activities contain lessons.
“Almost anytime, our lives controlled by technology. Even when we think, play games, behave, almost all of them were controlled by techs which have been developed by science and technology. Therefore we are expected to master the technology. This affirmation is our preparation towards success,” said the professor of Faculty of Economics and Business UNAIR.
In the occasion, Prof. Nasih emphasized to the freshmen that when they work on their thesis or dissertation to choose strategic topics which have not been known by the public. “Most important in the academic culture is to develop science. Anything we haven’t understood and found. If we have the answers, we don’t have to find and study again as they are already clear,” he said.
He also said that students should not postpone their works or responsibilities as the problem of learning process is not problem on researching or formulating theory, but to the responsibility which has not been completed.
“Who has a vague picture on their thesis and dissertation, start to write now as the original ideas haven’t been used by others,” he said.
Prof. Nasih emphasized them to finish their studies as they are supposed to, two years for master degree and four years for doctoral degree.
“All students must have clear timeline of their target. For class of 2012 which missed their scheduled graduation, must write thesis with scientific journal indexed internationally,” said Prof. Nasih.
In the affirmation, the students took their oath and then followed with scholarships awarding of Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP), Indonesian Domestic Lecturer Scholarship (BUDI-DN) and Developing Country Partnership (KNB). (*)
