CS2 Encourages Communications Students in Indonesia to Build Smart City

UNAIR NEWS –  Communications Student Association (HIMAKOM) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) held Grand Opening Communication Student Summit (CS2) in Kahuripan Hall, Management Office Building UNAIR on Thursday, September 1. The CS2 event titled “Smart City: Collaboration in Digital Era” was one of the events held to commemorate the anniversary of Communication Studies Department Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR).

This time, CS2 invited representatives of Communications Student Association in Indonesia. The event was held at the same time of Dies Natalis and National Meeting of Indonesian Communications Student Association (IMIKI), which this year is held in Surabaya, one of the venues is UNAIR.

CS2 Concepts of event were different from the previous years. This year CS2 was better packaged with some interesting activities such as Scholar Visit,Presenting Culture, Media Learning and Conference.

“The objectives of this CS2, we want to collaborate with all student associations as through the collaboration we can share similar vision and missions,”  said Winny Arwintasari Halimah of the public relations of CS2.

Scholar visit to build smart city

After the Grand Opening, the participants will commence the scholar visit which they will be divided into some groups and they then visit some non-profit organizations and government agencies in Surabaya, who are the stakeholders of smart city development.

From the visit, the participants will understand the vision and missions of the organizations or agencies to build smart city also the problems and solutions of them. After that, they will present the result in a conference held in the afternoon.

“We realized that stakeholders must collaborate to build a smart city. One of the aspects of collaboration is communication,” said Dr. Yayan Sakti Suryandaru, S.Sos., M.Si, Head of UNAIR Communication Studies Department in presence of the participants. “Representatives from out of town later can share their insight on smart city concept, maybe the concept is different,” he said.

Winni said that the event expected smart communication in order to build excellent collaboration. After scholar visit, the participants are expected to get good understanding on what the stakeholders need to build a smart city and share it.

Mohammad Asaddin Nur as the Head Committee CS2 this year said that he was proud as the participants enthusiasm was great. “I hope we can collaborate again with IMIKI in the future. And we can maintain it to hold even bigger event,” Asaddin said.

As planned, CS2 will be completed with the closing ceremony and awarding night for best participation in FISIP UNAIR on Monday September 4. (*)
