UNAIR NEWS – In order to celebrate the great holy day of Eid-ul-Adha 1437 H, Indonesian Veterinarian Association (PDHI) of East Java I held a training on handling qurban animals. “Pelatihan Penyembelihan Ternah Qurban Menghadapi Hari Raya Idul Adha 1437 H Bagi Ta’mir Masjid dan Mushola se-Surabaya (Training on Qurban Animals Handling at Eid-ul-Adha 1437 H for Mosque and Musalla Staff of Surabaya) ” was held in collaboration with Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH) Universitas Airlangga.
The training was held in Tanjung Adiwinata Hall FKH UNAIR and attended by representatives of mosques and musallas in Surabaya. Dr. Wiwik Misaco Yuniarti., drh., M.Kes said that the participants were more than expected. There was also a simulation of the qurban animal slaughter.
“In the training there will not be only simulation, but there will also be knowledge sharing on diseases and how to look after the qurban animals health,” she said.
Present for the occasion, Prof. Dr. Suwarno, drh., M.Si as the head of regional PDHI East Java I. He said that it was the first training of qurban animal slaughter in collaboration with education institution.
“The event like this is usually held by Livestock Agency but this was held in collaboration with a university, so we received appreciation from Central PDHI, he said.
In the occasion, Suwarno said that the meat given to mustahiq (people who receive zakat) must meet the ASUH standards. “So ASUH is an acronym of safety, healthy, whole and halal,” said Suwarno who is also the Vice Dean III FKH UNAIR.
He also said that he regretted the ignorant treatment to the animals. Many animals even got stressful during the sacrifice. “Actually, stressful animals have less delicious meat compared to one without stress,” he said.
Dr. Rimayanti., Drh., M.Kes as the first speaker said that animal welfare should be considered to the animals to be sacrificed.
“Included in the animal welfare are free from hunger and thirst, discomfort, pain, wound and diseases, free to normal expression and free from being stressed and pressures,” she said.
Dr. Wiwik Misaco Yuniarti., drh., M.Kes as the second speaker explained about the animal health while Prof. Suwarno as the third speaker explained the features of healthy livestocks.
“The features of healthy livestock can be seen from the eyes, fur, appetite, movement, skin, mucosa membrane, stool and their standing stance,” said Prof. Suwarno.
Furthermore, Dr. Moh. Anam Al Arif., drh., MP as the fourth speaker explained about the diseases and the way to slaughter the animals.
The event was moderated by Dr. Anang Murjito representing PDHI East Java I and was ended by simulating the way to handle the qurban animals. (*)
