UNAIR NEWS – In presence of more than 340 freshmen of Faculty of Public Health (FKM) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), an lumnus with achievements also attended. The alumnus motivated and elaborated his programs which made him get the award from the government.
His name is Muchaiyan. He was named as the health staff with achievements at national level 2016 by Ministry of Health. Muchaiyan explained about “Damar Geulis Ciptakan Posyandu Manggis yang Optimal”. The public lecture was held on Friday, August 26 in Kahuripan Hall, Management Office Building Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR).
Muchaiyan graduated from UNAIR in 2002. He is trusted as Head of Public Health Center (Puskesmas) Mangunharjo, Madiun. During his leadership, he suggested integrated service post (posyandu) to be independent financially.
To realize his idea, he started a program called Damar Geulis. Damar Geulis is the short of Community Empowerment and Inter-Sectoral Movement. As a pilot project, he implemented the program in Posyandu Manggis, Kelurahan Winongo, Madiun.
In the implementation of Damar Geulis program, he collaborated with many people. He involves village administrations, cadres, and all community’s elements. The key was recruiting important figures in the community.
Some interesting programs were like training cadres on mosquito eradication, garbage bank initiation, to routine calisthenics for elders. There is also a rule which fines the inhabitant if they are caught smoking.
“If the husband smokes, the wife pays Rp 5000 to the Posyandu. Over time, it will be used as labor fund. There are even smoking free area now, so the wives forbid the husbands smoking. We also collaborated with the head of the village to ban cigarette’s promotion and we put some banners to ban smoking,” Muchaiyan said.
He wants one thing, to make Posyandu as the place of community to get information on health. He wants his program to be implemented in three posyandus and the puskesmas objectives to create healthy sub-district will be accomplished.
“I want the Posyandu to be the health center of information, not only for babies’ monitoring. Later, in each RT, there will be healthy village movement. If it happens, then the puskesmas task to create healthy sub-district will be accomplished. We also empower the cadres. They’re humans too. They deserved appraisals, supports and consideration in making decisions,” added Muchaiyan. (*)
