Since 1954, UNAIR Has Had 452 Professors

UNAIR NEWS – In the middle of 2016, Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) is affirming professorships to three more of its scholars on Saturday, August 27. They are going to be affirmed in Garuda Mukti Hall, Management Office Building UNAIR by UNAIR Rector Prof. Dr. M. Nasih, S.E, M.T, Ak.

They are Prof. Dra. Myrtati Dyah Artaria, M.A., Ph.D as Professor on Anthropology (FISIP), Prof. Dr. drh. Suherni Susilowati, M.Kes as Professor on Artificial Insemination(FKH), and Prof. Dr. I Komang Wiarsa Sardjana, drh., as Professor on Internal Medicine and Veterinary Surgery (FKH).

Since UNAIR establishment in 1954, they are affirmed as 450th, 451st, and 452nd professors. But since UNAIR got its status as State University Acting as Legal Entity, they are affirmed as 158th, 159th and 160th.

In their faculty, Prof. Myrtati is the 16th active professor of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP). While Prof. Suherni is the 23rd  active professor of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH), and Prof. Komang is the 24th active professor of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH) .

With more professors, UNAIR is expected to give real contribution to the society. “We are waiting how the ideas can be realized and applied. So, UNAIR can give real contribution to achieve food security and to make decisions based on the accurate information,” said UNAIR Rector.

In the press conference regarding the affirmation, the three professors presented their summaries of their scientific orations. Prof. Myrtati will present scientific oration titled “Identifikasi Individu Tak Beridentitas di Indonesia (Identification of Unknown Individuals in Indonesia)”. She said that Indonesia has special genetic traits due to endogamy marriage.

“Endogamy marriage is a marriage of people with similarities, either similar ethnicity, origin, religion or many more. The first principle of Pancasila only affects specially to Indonesia,” said Prof. Myrta to the press on Thursday, August 25.

Prof. Myrta explained that because of endogamy marriages, unknown individuals’ identification is easier. It is different with the genetic aspects in foreign countries which have more inter-marriages.

The second professor who presented her scientific oration was Prof. Suherni. In the oration titled ““Potensi Frozen Semen pada Kawin Suntik Kambing sebagai Upaya Memenuhi Kebutuhan Protein Hewani (Frozen Semen Potential on Goat Artificial Insemination as Effort to Fulfill Animal Protein Need)”, Prof. Suherni explained that frozen semen quality is one factor to successful artificial insemination program. Therefore, Growth factor –I complex insulin is managed in the frozen semen.

The third professor was Prof. Komang. In his scientific oration titled “Menuju Swasembada Daging di Indonesia dengan Tes Progesteron Paper Strip (Towards Indonesian Food Security with Paper Strip progesterone Test)”, Prof. Komang improved a new method to detect reproductive status faster and easier. The method is a diagnostic kit to detect early pregnancy to cows. (*)
