Rector Appreciates Bronze Medal Winner from FK in Mathematics Olympiad

UNAIR NEWS – Bronze medal winner of International Mathematics Competition (IMC) in Bulgaria held on July 24-31, 2016, Jefferson Caesario, met UNAIR Rector Prof. Dr. H. Mohammad Nasih, MT., SE., Ak, CMA., on Wednesday, August 24  (24/8), in his office room. The student of Medicine program in Faculty of Medicine (FK) who was still in the second semester was appreciated positively by the Rector accompanied by Vice Rector I, Prof. Djoko Santoso, dr., Sp.PD-KGH., Ph.D., FINASIM.

“He is unique, has an achievement in Mathematics while he is in FK. Furthermore, his friends who were sent with him in Bulgaria, were mostly in their last semester. But he is in his first semester,” said the man born in Gresik.

He assured him that the university will specially appreciate students who bring glory to the alma mater  at international level. The mechanism of rewards will be determined by the Directorate of Student Affairs.

Prof. Nasih hoped that in the future, Jefferson can make better achievements. He also expects other academicians to have similar achievements at international level as the student who is originally from Surabaya.

Prof. Djoko Santoso, dr., Sp.PD-KGH., Ph.D., FINASIM added that what Jefferson achieved was a form of UNAIR activeness at international level. The competition was fierce, being able to snatch a bronze medal was quite an achievement. He was not only the representative of UNAIR but also representative of Indonesia,” said Prof. Djoko.

Jefferson promised, nest year he will try to get better result. “With this achievement, I’ll be more determined especially when the university shows great attention to it,” he said.

IMC is a routine competition participated by the Ministry of Research and higher Education (Kemenristek Dikti) Indonesia. Every year, Kemenristek Dikti sends 9 best students to IMC. The nine students are chosen from a selection participated by 20 participants of ON-MIPA (Mathematics and Science National Olympiad and First place of National Science Olympiad (OSN) Pertamina. With Jefferson success as the first winner in last year’s PERTAMINA OSN, he had an opportunity to join the selection and chosen as one of the delegates in IMC.

He had an opportunity to participate in the same event next year without going have to do the regional selection. He just has to join the national level selection. If he is through, he will be a delegate in IMC 2017. (*)
