UNAIR NEWS – Neurosurgery Department Faculty of Medicine (FK) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) held an event, “Airlangga Neuro Surgical Workshop”. It was held to update knowledge on the latest neurosurgery, and attended by students of Neurosurgery Specialist program of FK UNAIR. This routine event was held in Airlangga Surgical Anatomy Development (ASAD)room, in Campus A UNAIR.

According to Dean of FK UNAIR Prof. Dr. Soetojo, dr., Sp.U (K) during the opening after the Sunday calisthenics on August 21, the workshop invited senior neurosurgeons and alumni of Neurosurgery FK UNAIR. “The senior neurosurgeons’ expertise is important to be transferred to their juniors,” said the professor of Urology FK UNAIR.

Furthermore, Prof. Soetojo said that the learning process in the workshop used a cadaver which the recording was transmitted directly to all participants using 3 dimensional video technology.

”I am sure that this kind of method is rarely used, even maybe it’s the first in Indonesia. In Singapore, this practice is done with a mannequin not a cadaver. When using a cadaver and practiced by experts, the precision is close with the real practice,” said Prof. Soetojo.

With excellent facility like Airlangga Surgical Anatomy Development (ASAD), there are many similar workshop of other departments conducted there. Some of the departments which have used ASAD were Department of Urologi, Department of Orthopaedics, Department of Plastic Surgery, Department of Neurosurgery and many more.

“Facility like ASAD really supports academic development in FK UNAIR,” said Dean of FK Prof. Soetojo. (*)
