UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga has a lot of alumni spread across the country even abroad. Even though the exact number of them is not known yet since the first graduation, UNAIR is trying to connect to its hundreds of thousands alumni in any regions.

The fact is, since last trimester of 2015 until the mid-year of 2016, there are many alumni gatherings held in many regions, such as Kendari, Jakarta and Bogor.

One of the alumni in Jakarta, Mochammad Taufik Hidayat said that alumni gathering is one way to gather the alumni spread across the country. For him, it is important to be organized to rekindle their pride and sense of belonging to alma mater.

“It is important to revive the pride and the sense of belonging as when you are in Jakarta, alumni network plays a great part,” said Taufik who now works as officer in the content management of Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Information.

According to Taufik, there are many ways to strengthen ties of UNAIR alumni. They can be approached through many ways based on the graduation year. If they were graduated before 1990s, alumni gatherings in many regions is a right way as they do not really aware of the technology. Furthermore, alumni gathering will enable them to meet and re-live their college memories.

Taufik also suggested to invite favorite lecturers to attract the alumni. “When they study, there must be favorite lecturers. Invite them to attract the alumni,” said Taufik interviewed in Semanggi, Jakarta, on Wednesday August 17.

Alumni graduated after 1990s should be well acquainted with latest technology such as social media. In Taufik’s opinion, there is no harm for UNAIR to connect with the alumni by establishing forums either through WhatsApp, Facebook and other social media. The alumni can be invited in a group based on their programs, faculties and their graduation years.

Adding Taufik suggestion, Jojo Raharjo, UNAIR alumnus who works as a staff of Deputy IV of the president, said that it will be better if alumni networking can be strengthened at the program level.
