UNAIR NEWS – 71st Indonesian Independence Day celebration in Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) ran well with great festivities. Different from the previous years, UNAIR held contests which were participated by UNAIR academician from the officials, staff or students. The contests ran rousingly. They were held after the flag ceremony. Enthusiasm can be seen from the participants and audiences who took part until they were over.
There were three contests, banana trunk rowing race, which was held on the lake of Campus C, UNAIR, Javanese presenting contest and cheering contest held in front of Management Office Building. Units, institutes and faculties even foreign students participated in the contests.
“The contests are to improve spirits of UNAIR academician. How to stay solid, spirited and how to preserve them together,” said UNAIR Rector Prof. Dr. M. Nasih, S.E., M.T., Ak.
The officials either from units, institutes and faculties did not want to be left behind. In Javanese presenting contest there were some participants who were passive Japanese users. So, during the reading, audiences or participants laughed out loud, as the pronunciation of Javanese is quite complex.
UNAIR Rector said the contests to celebrate the Indonesian independence day was to push the academician, that the independence achieved was from extraordinary fight. He hoped that UNAIR academicians can always use Javanese so it will not be extinct.
“I hope, first, the spirit to live with Javanese will not be extinct. Second, friends can remain solid even though use many languages. Third, the foreign students understand and interested to the culture and languages in Indonesia, especially Javanese,” said the professor of Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UNAIR.
In banana trunk rowing race, team B of Directorate of Facility and Infrastructure UNAIR won the first, University Secretary won the second place and the third place was won by team A of Directorate of Facility and Infrastructure UNAIR and the third place.
For the Javanese presenting contest, The first place was Mochtar Lutfi of Faculty of Humanities, Second place was Junaidi Khotib, Vice Rector IV, and third place was Hery Purnobasuki, Head of Research and Innovation Board. Meanwhile, for the cheering contest, the first place was Security Guard UNAIR team, second place was Faculty of Dentistry (FKG), and the third place was Faculty of Fisheries and Marine (FPK).
The Head of Information and Public Relations Center (PIH) UNAIR, Suko Widodo said that the contests in celebration of Indonesian Independence Day was to strengthen ties among academicians of UNAIR.
