Optimizing Information Openness in UNAIR

UNAIR NEWS – Public institution has obligation to publish information, especially when information technology is developing. Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) has commitment to publish information either on education, research, and community service through media like the internet.

As its commitment, Planning and Development Board of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) held a workshop attended by Head of Information and Public Relations Center (PIH) UNAIR Drs. Suko Widodo, M.Si, Coordinator of  Information and Public Relations  (KIH) and representatives of Directorate of Information System. The meeting with KIH was a part of a workshop titled “Workshop of Webometrics’ Ranking Improvement’ held in Kahuripan Hall 301, Monday, August 15.

According to Suko, technology advancement changes the tradition of people getting information, by accessing information online. The advancement should be followed with awareness of faculties and supporting units to manage the site as expected.

To improve it, KIH personnel must be supported with human resources quality improvement through workshops, such as news writing workshop, and comparative study to other institutions or universities. They are expected to improve knowledge on information management.

“How can we compete if we don’t understand the area?” he said. Suko added that the meeting among information managing working units should be done at least once a month so the consolidation runs well.

In the meeting, Head of BPP UNAIR Badri Munir Sukoco, Ph.D, elaborated the improvement of content of each faculty, department and program page. Furthermore, Badri asked the KIH personnel to inform public relations’ needs to the faculty high officials.

In the meeting, KIH personnel are also asked to publish information sources to the media such as professors and researches’ profiles, experts, events and achievements either from the students, lecturers or educational staffs.

In the meeting, KIH personnel are asked to present their upcoming year program plan. There are many programs presented, such as human resources recruitment on journalism, corporate identity video making, social media integration, and faculty, department and program official sites’ content updates.

The programs are parts of improving academic reputation and UNAIR position at Webometrics. The ranking organization uses four indicators to assess university improvement based on the university website and publication related to university academicians. Those four indications are presence, impact, openness, and excellence. (*)
