UNAIR NEWS – In order to improve quality of online information, Information and Public Relations Center (PIH) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) held a workshop titled “Online News Writing Workshop” in Kahuripan 301, Tuesday, August 16.

The workshop was participated by Coordinator of Information and Public Relations of each faculty, work unit and UNAIR student forum. In his address, the head of Information and Public Relations Center (PIH) Drs. Suko Widodo, M.Si., said that all public relations in UNAIR will learn to manage the information especially on journalism.

Humas can also be defined as hubungan masalah (problem related). It means that we have to be able to manage the problem on journalism, such as on how to deal with the press,” said the Head of PIH UNAIR.

In the workshop, T. Aria Auliandri, M.Sc and Redo Nomadore were present as speakees in the workshop. In his presentation, Aria said that he focused on online news writing technique, while Redo presented his journalism photography materials.

In the occasion, Aria said that a journalist needs an event to make a story. “If there are no events, journalists should make one,” he said.

Regarding the workshop, Aria said that in the future, each faculty is expected to have journalism organization. It is useful to build and reinforce UNAIR reputation, and especially for the faculties.

“UNAIR NEWS is only eight months old. As we have the reference, in the future it will be optimized in the faculties,” he said.

A news piece should be supported with an image. Related to photography, Redo said that an incident can be informed through visual image. It makes a news piece even more interesting for public.

“94 percents of audience is attracted to news with picture, compared to news with only texts,” he said.

On good journalism photos, Redo explained some interesting photo criteria. They are photos which pique the public interests as well as tell the story.

In the end of the workshop, Redo or Aria hoped that every journalist in UNAIR can produce and improve quality of their news with maximum quantity. Even though currently there is only UNAIR NEWS team which actively produces news, in the future faculty journalism teams can contribute as well.

“UNAIR has 15 faculties and at least 150 programs, with 36,000 students. Individuals must have their own stories which can be news pieces,” said Aria. “Let’s contribute together through good news of UNAIR,” he said in the end. (*)
