UNAIR NEWS – In university ranking, UNAIR also refers to the method of Webometrics. Webometrics has four criteria in assessing the universities through its official page and publication related to the academic community. They are  presence, impact, openness, and excellence.

Regarding the matter, Planning and Development Board (BPP) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) held ‘Webometrics Ranking Improvement Workshop’ in Kahuripan Hall 301, on Monday, August 15. The workshop was attended by the head and coordinator of Information and Public Relations (KIH) in UNAIR.

The workshop presided by Vice Rector I UNAIR Prof. Djoko Santoso, dr., Ph.D, Sp.PD., K-GH, FINASIM, and Head of BPP Badri Munir Sukoco, Ph.D, discussed about steps to improve UNAIR’s ranking in Webometrics.

As of now, UNAIR’s rank is at the eighth from all Indonesian universities and at international level it is at 1906th.

In the occasion, Prof. Djoko wanted UNAIR position in Webometrics at least similar with UNAIR position on Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) ranking. To achieve it, Vice Rector UNAIR said that academic reputation improvement is needed.

The efforts towards academic reputation improvement can be done through increasing international academic agendas and research publications. Prof. Djoko also asked most programs in UNAIR to hold two international level academic agendas in a year.

“There are 169 programs in UNAIR, let’s say half of them hold two international events in a year, also scientific presentations. So there’s communication with international speakers. If the agenda is done routinely at least in 5 years, they will acknowledge UNAIR,” said Prof. Djoko.

Prof. Djoko also reminded academicians of UNAIR to hold forum with the government. The discussion forum is to disseminate research results in various fields conducted by UNAIR researchers.

In the same occasion, Badri elaborated the importance of Webometrics ranking for UNAIR. Badri quoted Prof. Hermawan of World Class University evaluating team who visited UNAIR last week, said that UNAIR has great potentials to improve. Therefore, academic reputation improvement in digital era is important.

Referring to University of Manchester which is at 69th on Webometrics, all lecturers are recorded in Google Scholar. Webometrics uses Google Scholar as an assessment indicator. Head of BPP also suggested that all lecturers to have activities in Google Scholar.

So far, UNAIR has made many efforts to improve Webometrics ranking such as establishing official pages like http://repository.unair.ac.id,http://news.unair.ac.id, and holding workshops related to Webometrics, (*)
