UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga is keep making efforts towards internationalization through various programs. One of them was inviting UNAIR alumnus which is also a senior researcher, Prof. Delvac Oceandy, MD., Ph.D as a visiting lecturer. The lecture was held in Garuda Mukti Hall, Management Office Building UNAIR on Thursday, August 11 and attended by UNAIR lecturers and researchers. In the occasion, Prof. Delvac presented a topic on “Key to Successful Career on Research”.
Prof. Delvac is a senior researcher who works in University of Manchester, England. He is also supervisor with authority to admit postgraduate students in University of Manchester.
Vice Rector I UNAIR Prof. Djoko Santoso, Ph.D in his speech, said that lecturers have to conduct researches. The objective is to develop their teaching and improve quality of public service. Beside bringing benefits to the society, the increasing number of research publications will take UNAIR close towards top world class university.
“Making contribution through research brings more benefits than non-research. Research with greater benefits automatically will improve our ranking towards Top 500 World,” he said.
In the occasion, Prof. Delvac said that there are four keys to successful research, focus, creativity, collaboration and mentorship. Focused only to research, in the last ten years he has conducted no less than 30 researches.
“In the last ten years, I only studied about molecules. All about molecular mechanism on heart failure,” he said.
According to Prof. Delvac, it is important to researchers to be known by the public. He also gave some encouragements to students and future researchers. “Even though you have been graduated, a researcher must retain connections with promoter and co-promoter,” said Prof. Delvac.
Head of Research and Innovation Institute of UNAIR, Prof. Hery Purnabasuki, Ph.D, who was also present in the lecture said that lecturers normally conduct researches and publications. Researches are indispensable, not burdens.
“All lecturers should make publications. They are not burdens but they have to contribute no matter how small as they have obligation and commitment for them,” said Prof. Hery. (*)
