UNAIR NEWS – The meeting to redesign curriculum of Technobiomedics Master Program of Postgraduate School was held on Wednesday, August 10, in Postgraduate building hall. Beside academicians and lecturers, some experts coming from different institution were also invited. Some of them were Prof. Dr. Ir. Mauridhi Hery Purnomo, M.Eng and dr. I Putu Alit Pawana. Nevertheless, if more inputs and references are needed, the program will immediately communicate with the experts.
Head of Technobiomedics master program, Dr. Suryani Dyah Astuti, SSi., MSi, said that Technobiomedics has two field consentration, medical instrumentation and biomaterial. The learning process of each concentration generally divided from the start. So, after being redesigned, there will be some basic differences.
“There will be more shared lessons. They will be separated only to subjects of their choices. This pattern will start in 2016/2017 academic year,” said Suryani.
Therefore, every student will get more knowledge. They will not be limited by their concentrated study as challenges in the world are getting more complex. So, multi-dimensional skills are needed especially when this program was developed from inter-disciplinary study, from technology to medicine.
The director of Postgraduate School UNAIR Prof. Dr. Hj. Sri Iswati, SE., M.Si., Ak., said that this program is unique as it does not have hierarchy concept. Student admission is open every semester so the program eases up students who want to continue study. “The study is really applicative in daily life and improve science and technology,” she said.
Director of Education UNAIR Prof. Dr. Ni Nyoman Tri Puspaningsih, Dra., M.Si., who was also present in the meeting said that redesigning is needed to improve the program. “Don’t be afraid of changing curriculum,” she said. “Improvement is needed to reinforce our global insight,” she added.
Prof. Nyoman also reminded to always have initiatives for synergy with others especially with elements in Surabaya like ITS which has good technology. In other words, UNAIR which has excellent capability in medicine, will create special technobiomedic products if it collaborates with ITS. (*)
