UNAIR NEWS – Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Menristek Dikti) Prof. Dr. M. Nasir was determined to make public official profession less interesting in the future, instead he wanted researcher as the interesting and wanted profession.
It was stated in his official address when we opened National Science Week (PIMNAS) XXIX, in Graha Widya Wisuda (GWW) Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB), Monday evening, August 8. Accompanied by Rector IPB, Prof. Dr. Ir. H. Herry Suhardiyanto, M.Sc., the head of the Pimnas XXIX committee, Prof. Dr. Ir. Yonny Koesmaryono, MS., Menristek marked the event opening by pushing the button to sound the siren which was followed with Pimnasa participants display and art performances.
Attended in this Pimnas opening were rectors of universities in Indonesia such as Rector Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) Prof. Dr. H. Moh Nasih, SE., MT., Ak., MCA., and Rector Universitas Brawijaya as the champion of Pimnas XXVIII in Universitas Halu Oleo, Kendari, to present the “Adi Karta Kertawidya” trophy for the competition and to be awarded to the new champion.
The minister determined to improve innovation and creativity based on research in order to improve the nation’s competitiveness development. If there are no efforts towards them, there will not be any improvements and changes. The point is, innovation is important to improve nation’s competitiveness.
“The USA is an advanced country because of their innovations. So is Japan. Therefore, research work must be improved and it will be better if the researchers are not busied with financial reports,” said Menristek Prof. M Nasir.
It was stated that Pimnas is an event which must be held to find excellent researchers to create innovations in order to improve students’ creativity based on research.
To the researchers, reviewers and lecturers community, Menristek also informed good news in the enactment of Ministry of Finance Regulation (Permenkeu) Number 106 in 2016. The regulation manages research funding which is no longer based on activity but based on outputs or results. The new regulation was initiated by Kemenristek, so in the future researchers are no longer busied by complicated financial responsibility.
”There were so many fake documents, which might be the excess of the difficult scheme of financial responsibility at that time. Hopefully, Pimnas in the future can be better, with high quality and meaningful,” said Menristek.
Menristek Dikti also appreciated the committee of Pimnas for their hard work as this year is pimnas with the most participation ever since the first Pimnas in 1988. The minister also promised that the champion of this innovation event will compete abroad if there is a similar competition at international level.
This Pimnas XXIX organization is deemed appropriate as it was held at the same time with 21st National Technology Day which is celebrated in Solo, Tuesday August 9 2016 with “Inovasi untuk Kemandirian dan Daya Saing Bangsa (Innovation for Nation’s Independence and Competitiveness)” as a theme.
”I hope in the future we can make Pimnas to be the event of togetherness among students in Indonesia, so with any identities of Indonesian students they have one objective, to improve nation’s competitiveness,” said Menristek Dikti Prof. M Nasir.
Head of Pimnas XXIX Committee Prof. Dr. Ir. Yonny Koesmaryono, MS reported that the participants were from 145 universities with 460 proposals selected out of 4,724 PKM teams funded by Kemenristek Dikti in 2016. But then the committee suggested to add 20 more teams to give more opportunities for universities to participate in Pimnas XXIX in IPB. (*)
