Government Pushes 11 State Universities Towards World Class University

Eleven state universities in Indonesia is being pushed towards world class university. They are UGM, UI, ITB, Unpad, Undip, IPB, Unair, ITS, Unhas, USU, and UPI. Nevertheless, as of 2019, Kemenristekdikti only targets 5 universities to be in the category of world class university. Management and leadership improvement are the main requirements to world class education. If it happens, the eleven universities will be referred as model of Indonesian university development. Nevertheless, education quality and process will be evaluated continuously.

After Sudirman and Jonan Out of the Picture

After being delayed for few times, President Joko Widodo finally reshuffle his cabinet for the second time yesterday, July 27. He replaced eight ministers and rotated four others plus one head of an institution. One of them was Ministry of Education, which was Anies Baswedan, replaced by Muhadjir Effendy, former rector of Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang. Muhadjir finished his doctoral program in Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) in 2008. Beside Muhadjir, there was also another alumnus of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) in the cabinet, Asman, Abnur the Minister of  Administrative Reform and Bureaucratic Reform, who had his Science Master program in Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR).

20 UNAIR PKM Teams Compete

There are 20 teams of UNAIR Students Creativity Program teams competing in 29th National Science Week (PIMNAS). They are competing with hundreds of PKM teams from any universities in Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB). Director of Student Affairs of UNAIR, Hadi Subhan said that 20 UNAIR PKM teams qualified for PIMNAS were 4 were PKM-K (Entrepreneurship) proposals, 4 were PKM-KC (Karsa Cipta), 3 were PKM-M (Community Service), 6 were PKM-PE (Exacta Research), 2 were PKM-PSH (Social Humanity Research), and 1 was PKM-T (Technology). He also said that this year’s qualifying teams improved significantly than previous year.

Fragile Bones Not Only About Osteoporosis

There are many factors which affect human skeleton. Beside calcium, there are also genetic factors, nutrition, exercise and life patterns. One of bone problems caused by genetic problem is osteogenesis imperfecta (OI). It is quite rare condition. According to the lecturer of Faculty of Medicine (FK) UNAIR, dr. Sulis Bayusentono Sp.OT said that she handles four to six cases in a year. For OI, the patients can get broken bones easily. It does not relate with osteoporosis, but about mutated collagen 1 of the OI. It is quite frightening, the patients could have broken bones more than once. The solution, safe life pattern must be implemented early in life and consume enough calcium.
