UNAIR NEWS – National Narcotics Agency collaborated with Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) in order to eradicate narcotics. It was held in the form of seminar and practice titled ‘Student Activity Unit Capacity Development on P4GN (Prevention of Drugs Abuse and Circulation)’. It was participated by 18 universities in East Java and held for two days July 20-21, 2016 in Kahuripan Hall, Management Office Building, Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR).
Representing UNAIR Rector, Head of Prosperity Sub-unit Directorate of Student Affairs Fauzi, S.E., delivered an official address in the occasion. After that, developmental strategies of P4GN program in academic community were explained by Sinta Dame Simanjutak as the Deputy of Community Empowerment of Central BNN.
“Indonesia is in narcotics emergency as from 4.09 million narcotics users, 27.32% of them are students and there are many modus operandi used by dealers to sell narcotics,” said Sinta.
In the concept of empowering students, there are four aspects implemented, regulation, budgeting, program and activity. With the concepts, students are expected to be anti-narcotics activists by publicizing the narcotics to the children and teenagers. Students can also be informants for BNN if they know narcotics deals happen or there is drug abuse in their environments.
“We expected the students to participate in the TOT (training on trainer) in each campus, so the students in campus can be activists of anti- drug abuse and invite their friends to contribute. Therefore, domino effect of the drug abuse prevention and eradication will be effective,” added Sinta.
After discussion about P4GN, the Head of Communication Higher Education Association of East Java, Sugeng Winarno also presented a topic on effective communication in P4GN publicization. The last topic presented in the first day was on volunteering concept implementation in P4GN by Deni Yasmara.
The next day, there was a presentation and simulation on counseling hosted by Dean of Psychology. In the occasion, students were divided into groups of five. Two of them acted as counselor and counselee and the three observed and assessed their friends’ understanding on the topic presented before.
Through this event held by BNN and UNAIR, students can get knowledge on narcotics and the eradication efforts. “The training held for two days were interesting to be discussed and followed up. There must be real acts to change the prevalence of drugs users so they can be reduced,” said Disih Sugianti, P4GN program participant.
