UNAIR NEWS – Participating in international seminar is an achievement for academicians either students or lecturers especially in lecturing staff. Participation in international level academic events is a positive point.
Nevertheless, hardwork is needed to achieve it as competition is tight, not many people can do it.
“To participate in an international seminar, someone must submit a research abstract or concept as a requirement,” said Dean of FIB, Diah Ariani Arimbi SS., MA., PhD.
The woman who had her master program in the USA said that the abstract is usually composed of 200 – 400 words. It depends on the submission requirement of the seminar. The participant submitted the abstract must be able to elaborate the idea or research concisely. In the abstract only important elements of the research are presented, from the clear argument, methodology to results achieved.
Importantly, said the lecturer who got its doctoral degree in Australia, it is written in English special for academic writing. The seminar committee is quite strict for this. To understand the language, there are many references needed. There are many internet links providing the information on this matter.
The skill on English especially on academic writing must be possessed by someone who wants their works published internationally. In this regard, the researcher has to prepare his complete works, not only the abstract and with updated element.
“Reviewers on international level usually consider a dynamic issue in the community,” said Diah.
For example, there is a topic which has been discussed by some researchers. The latest researcher in order to publish their work internationally has to include the previous researches and fill the blank space between them, a topic which has not been addressed in details by the previous researchers. The research dynamics must be elaborated completely.
In a different occasion, Prof. Dr. Achmad Syahrani, Apt., MS said that international publication is not impossible to achieve. The key is extensive reading and conducting research. Vast knowledge on developing topics in the world is needed.
“Don’t let yourself carried away by monotonous routines without expanding insight of the world,” said the man who has had 31 international publications. (*)
