UNAIR NEWS – Hundreds of parents of Bidikmisi students through SBMPTN were welcomed in a discussion session with UNAIR Rector, Prof. Dr. Moh. Nasih., SE., MT.,Ak., CMA,. Director of Student Affairs, Dr. M. Hadi Subhan, SH., M.H., C.N, and the Head of Information and Public Relations Center (PIH) UNAIR, Drs. Suko Widodo, M.Si. They listened to the many stories of the Bidikmisi students and their parents on Tuesday, July 19.
In the occasion, Prof. Nasih gave opportunity to the parents to ask some questions or communicate their complaints regarding their children who were in Bidikmisi program during their study in UNAIR.
“I never dream that my child can get into this great building. Because I am financially disabled,” said the parent of a student named Nararian.
Other parent also shared their stories which led them unable to afford their daughter’s education in UNAIR.
“My child actually wants to go to General Medicine, but I told her, What are we going to pay it with to get into Medicine,” said the parent of Karina, a student from Blitar. “I was worried, but Alhamdulillah there is a university which accepted her,” she added.
In the occasion, Prof. Nasih told the students to always respect the parents and lecturers. He also emphasized that they have similar rights and obligations during their study at UNAIR.
“Respect your lecturers. At least, try to always pay attention to them,” said Prof. Nasih. “All in the same position to study at UNAIR. No one is treated special,” he said.
There was something unique happened during the event held in Garuda Mukti Hall. One of the parents was given opportunity to tell their story, saying that his son went to SMAN 1 Geger Madiun, the same school of Suko Widodo, who was a moderator in the discussion.
Suko welcomed a student named Ardion Massaid and his mother, Suhardiyah, to the stage. After the dialogue, the Head of PIH said he wanted to be the student’s guardian.
“You can leave him to me, I’ll be his guardian,” said Suko Widodo.
It inspired UNAIR Rector, Prof. Nasih to encouraged all lecturers of UNAIR to be guardians of Bidikmisi students with similar alma mater.
“Bidikmisi students come from the same school with a lecturer can be put on their watch,” said Prof. Nasih. “We will identify first, not all students with the same school of the lecturers are here. We will work on it, we will encourage the UNAIR’s lecturers,” he said.
Prof. Nasih emphasized that through the guardianship, it does not mean that the lecturers have to support them financially, but more to advise and supervise them regarding their study.
“Not financially but supervision. It means that if the student has a problem, the lecturer as the guardian will help them to solve the problems,” said Prof. Nasih. (*)
