“But when the student was financially challenged, with limited facility, helping parents by working, but they were able to get into UNAIR, it was an achievement by itself,” said Hadi in front of the students and their parents.
Motivation from Rector
In the occasion, to motivate the Bidikmisi students, Prof. NAsih also shared his story of his college life. He said that he himself was from the financially challenged family, he had to go home often to help his parents on the field.
“There didn’t use to be Bidikmisi, I helped my father on the field, the wage was only fifty thousand rupiah,” recalled Prof. Nasih.
Prof. Nasih also said to the parents to let go their children in learning at UNAIR as many of them were from far away. They will be rarely going home.
“I used to stay in Islamic boarding school, far from my parents. I ask you to let go your children to study here, don’t be surprised if they can only go home once a year, only in Eid-ul-Fitr,” said Prof. Nasih. “We will educate them to be successful people, insyallah,” he added.
In the end of their address, both Prof. Nasih and Hadi Subhan urged them to finish their study as scheduled.
“Averagely in eight semester or four years, if more than that the scholarship will be terminated, unless there’s a professional education,” said Hadi Subhan. “I urge all of you Bidikmisi students, four years from now, in 2020, I would graduate you all,” said Prof. Nasih followed with applause. (*)
