UNAIR Lecturer Bank Jatim Commissioner

Hadi Sukrianto, Commissioner of Bank Jatim resigned from his position. His position is given to Rudi Purwono, an academician of Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Airlangga. The commissioner, Rudi Purwono said that he joined Bank Jatim as a part of integration of directors and commissioners decision. He swore to carry on the task well and will push Bank Jatim to keep growing in the ailing national economy. At the moment, the academician of Unair is also trusted as the expert staff of Indonesian Minister of Finance.

Lower Sound Emission, Patients Calmer

Technological assistance in medical field has given significant effect to the diagnosis accuracy and swiftness. One device generally used to read anomaly in the body is MRI (magnetic resonance imaging). Radiology consultant of National Hospital Surabaya who is an alumnus of UNAIR, dr. Paulus Rahardjo SpRad(K) explained that this magnet use causes loud banging sound during the process of MRI, as if the patient was close to a train at 108 dB so it causes the patient to feel worried and anxious. Therefore, National Hospital Surabaya uses the only silent scan MRI 3T in Indonesia which was from the USA. This silent scan MRI 3T is the solution to some problems found with a conventional MRI scanning. The patient feel worried because of the loud sound, the image quality worsens as the patient anxious and moving a lot, also worried if they cannot listen the radiographer instructions.

Citra-Neyza Only Have One Heart
Conjoined twins from Kediri, Citra and Neyza who are now 35 months old are having intensive medical checks in RSUD dr. Soetomo. The head of the team in Integrated Conjoined Twins Center RSUD dr. Soetomo, an alumus of FK UNAIR, dr Agus Harianto SpAK said that they only have one heart, Citra and Neyza cannot be separated. They also shared the liver so it will be risky to separate them. Agus also explained that even though they cannot be separated they will try their best to stabilize them.

UMM-UNAIR Collaborate for Pharmacist Profession Program

Pharmacist Education Program Universitas Airlangga and Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) had another collaboration to renew the last one which lasted for 10 years, with refreshing course for lecturers. This collaboration is marked with a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing in Faculty of Medical Science (FIKES) UMM.

Promoter Candidate Selection

Master program towards excellent doctors (PMDSU) Batch III is opened. Kemenristekdikti has informed the applicants’ requests, either promoters or students, to each state university since the beginning of June. In Surabaya, two universities are appointed to organize the program, Institut Sepuluh November (ITS) and Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR). The promoter candidates are predicted to be less than last year’s as Kemenristekdikti set strict requirements. One of them is to submit scientific journal which was Scopus indexed. Meanwhile, UNAIR is still in sorting process. UNAIR Director of Education Ni Nyoman Tri Puspaningsih said that, her unit will finish the selection next week.

Lubricant Foam Measurement Software

Students of Universitas Airlangga made another innovations through Students Creativity Program (PKM). This time, it was about lubricant foam checking software, especially oil lubricant. They collaborated with PT pertamina (Persero) to develop the innovation. Nadifah Taqwina, Andini Istiqomatul, Mohammad Deny, Mokhammad Dedy, and Akhmad Afrizal developed lubricant test parameter device, for foaming test in PT. Pertamina. It was named FoamLab which is run by image processing system as one of the techniques to measure foam volume.

Failed Students Try Independent Admission

The number of independent admission applicants in some state universities are predicted to rise as the SBMPTN result is announced tomorrow. UNAIR Rector Prof. Moh Nasih said that all students can apply through independent admission. Either students who were in SBMPTN or not, because independent admission was based on result of the test held on July 24. The independent admission test include academic potential test and academic achievement test.

Using Headset, Beware of Acoustic Trauma

Using headset to listen to music has been a popular habit. But if it is done excessively, it will cause hearing problem called acoustic trauma. Ear specialist doctor of RSUD dr Soetomo who is an alumnus of FK UNAIR, dr. Nyilo Purnami SpTHT-KL(K) said that acoustic trauma is an injury of hearing system in the inner ear. The cause is excessively loud sound exposure. In her opinion listening to music through a headset should mind three things, duration, intensity and frequency. There are some symptoms which show a person suffers from acoustic trauma. First, there is a buzzing sound after hearing sounds, then there is low quality of hearing. It was followed with vertigo and dizziness. This hearing disorder can be permanent and irreparable even after treatment.

Introducing Native Martial Arts

Student activity unit (UKM) Persaudaraan Setia Hati Terate (PSHT) Universitas Airlangga participated in Silat on the Street and iftar distributing event held in west side frontage road of Jalan Ahmad Yani. They performed martial art demonstration of PSHT, single, double, spear and sword movements. The event was done to share as well as to introduce silat to the public.
