UNAIR Hospital Achieves Full Accrediation

The number of full accredited hospital is growing. This year, Hospital Accreditation Committee (KARS) gave certificate of full accreditation to two hospitals in Surabaya, one of them was Universitas Airlangga Hospital. The result was released on Tuesday, June 7 2016 and the certificate will be given on June 27. There were many aspects assessed before the committee certified UNAIR Hospital with full accreditation. The hospital has improved its service, also its human resources quality. The director of UNAIR Hospital Prof. Nasronudin said that to get full accreditation, the hospital has to pass 15 working programs assessments such as access and continuity of the service, drug management, education of patients and the parents also the patients’ safety.

UNAIR Team Investigates Stranded Whales in Probolinggo

A group of short-fin whales stranded dead in the north coast of Java, in Pesisir village, Gending, Probolinggo. The casualties is increasing, if two days before there were only 10 whales died, in the third day it became 12 whales. Seven researchers from Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) lead by M. Yunus, drh., Ph.D, investigated the cause of this phenomenon by taking three samples from three dead whales.

With other members of the team, Muhammad Achsinul Fikri Ma’ruf, Dohan Mahendra, Ruth Tyas, Akbar Haryo, and Happy Ferdyansyah, he said that there were some causes, there was a high tide which disrupts the migration channel of whales. Nine dead whales have been buried around the beach, while the rest is still being evacuated.

Unair Answers Questions on TPA Results

Education agency Surabaya collaborated with two universities for School Students Admission (PPDB) this year. One of them is Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) for the management of Academic Potential Test (TPA). In its implementation, UNAIR makes the test, checks the results also facilitates if there is some party want to ask about the results. As UNAIR was appointed by Education Agency to be an independent team for the TPA, UNAIR Rector emphasized that UNAIR is not involved with any TPA try outs held by some prep institutions. Furthermore, UNAIR guaranteed its secrecy.

Processes Soursop Leaves to be Bone Filler

Bachelor students of Biomedical Engineering Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) have succeeded in finding bone filler made of soursop leaves’ extract. They are Andini Isfandiary, Imroatus Solikhah, Rhisma Dwi Laksana, Yukiko Irliyani, and Ahmad Nurianto. They said that the innovation was to find an alternative medication for patients after being amputated. The leaves contain anticancer used to coat the bone filler. To make bone filler 10 x 10 cm, it spent Rp 2 million and needed two days to make it.

Lilies Handayani, UNAIR Alumni, Archery Athlete and Coach

Lilies Handayani was the first athlete who got a medal in Seoul Olympic 1988. At that time, the archer from Faculty of Law Universitas Airlangga was in a team category with Nurfitriyana Saiman and Kusumawardhani. Their struggle has inspired a production house to make a film out of it titled 3 Srikandi. The film is to be released in early August at the same time of Rio Olympic. Chelsea Islan starred as Lilies. At the moment, three children of Lilies are taking on Archery too, they are  Dellie Threesyadinda, Irvaldy Ananda Putra, and Della Adisty Handayani. Two Lilies’ daughters, Dellie and Della are training for SEA Games. While Aldy, will compete at National level representing East Java for PON XIX West Java.
