UNAIR NEWS – Social media nowadays has an important role to build social image, either for individual or group. In social media, we have opportunities to write ideas, opinion and other things building a self image. Competition to build self image used to be limited through printed media. Now, social media offers that possibility.
That statement was made by Tempo editor, Endri Kurniawati in a workshop “Writig Opinion on Social Media” held by student association of Communication science, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) on Wednesday, June 15. Beside Endri, there was Nieke Indrietta as the Head of East Java Bureau of Tempo. Both presented topics on opinion writing.
In the occasion, Endri said that people must be careful in posting or sharing information, either written or photos. It was all because of Information and Electronic Transaction Law (UU ITE) number 11 in 2008. Furthermore, Endri also shared some tips on writing opinions to be published in mass media.
“Choose a theme favoured by the mass media, as it will determine whether your script published or not. The theme should be related to the latest news trend. Media will not accept script which the topic of discussion is not related to the trend. Or, pick a theme related to commemoration unnoticed by the public,” said Endri.
Endri also said that originality is necessary. “Do not write topics which often discussed by others,” he said.
After the speakers presented their topics, the participants were invited to write opinion right away. Every team of participants consisted of three people. For appreciation, three chosen scripts will be published in official media blog of Tempo.
Dicky Murdian Putra as the head of the committee said that opinion writing should be understood by the public as nowadays, writing ideas and opinion is popular in social media.
“Nowadays many people expressed their ideas and opinions in mass media, but they do not know how to write them well and correctly. We often see them say what they want to say, when actually there is law which regulates it,” said Dicky.
Through this event, Dicky hoped that participants got insights applicable in daily life. He also said that HIMA ILKOM has a media, “Club Koma” which gathers students of Communication and collect their scripts.
“We have a club named “Club Koma” to gather students who like writing, want to be journalists and want their script published in media. We published a magazine monthly, with different theme for each edition,” said Dicky. (*)
