UNAIR NEWS – For Indonesian, archery is not as popular as football. But who would have thought that UNAIR had made achievements from this sports. This time UNAIR Archery UKM made achievements in 5th Surabaya Archery Open Tournament 2016 held from 21 to 29 May 2016 in KONI Surabaya. At least 10 students from Archery UKM competed in three categories, Compound, Recurve and National.
Some of them were from UNAIR Archery UKM, Yoke Rizaldi (FIB), Garincha Didi Nugroho (FST), Irvaldi Ananda Putra (FISIP), Tiara Sakti Ramadhani (FISIP), and Dellie Threesyadinda. They got the most medals in Compound category.
“UNAIR Archery UKM has brought 2 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals home. While the Recurve team got 1 broze medal,” said Tiara Sakti Ramadhani, in UNAIR Radio.
Besides winning medals, in this event, UNAIR Archery UKM students are also preparing for the upcoming event PON IXX 2016. Some of them are appointed to represent East Java in the great event held from 17 to 29 September. This appointment was based on their track record of winning many medals from various competitions, either national or international.
“The competition was also a preparation for National Sports Week (PON) 2016 in West Java next September,” said Tiara.
To compete in PON 2016, they have to practice routinely and remotely (quarantined practices) in KONI athletes dormitory since January. They were trained directly by Lilies Handayani, senior female archer, who had won the first medal in Seoul Olympic, with her two friends Kusuma and Yana in 1988.
“For my personal target in PON 2016, I target three gold medals in the individual category, team duel and mix team,” said Tiara.
After PON 2016 finishes, Tiara and her friends Della Adisty Handayani will compete again to represent Universitas Airlangga in 18th ASEAN University Games. The event will be held in Singapore on 10-19 July. (*)
