UNAIR NEWS – World ranking organization, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) University Rankings (UR) has just released its university ranking for country and regional category of 2016/2017 academic year. As published by QS(UR), Universitas Airlangga is the fourth best university in Indonesia.
The ranking was calculated with QS UR method, they are academic reputation (30%), alumni reputation (20%), student lecturer ratio in faculty (15%), research citations (10%), research per faculty (10%), ratio of international teaching staff in faculty (2.5%), ratio of foreign students (2.5%), ratio of foreign students who study at UNAIR (2.5%) and ratio of UNAIR students who continue their studies overseas (2.5%).
UNAIR Rector Prof. Dr. M. Nasih, S.E., M.T., Ak, said that the papers sent to QS UR in February 2016. QS UR checked the papers and documents about journal publications Scopus indexed, and contact the alumni in random. From the papers and confirmation, UNAIR remained at the fourth rank.
“There are few things which they did not calculate such as publications. QS only recorded Scopus indexed journals. Because QS is related to Scopus, so if there is international journal publication which is not Scopus indexed, then it is not recorde. To get through Scopus itself is not an easy task,” said UNAIR Rector.
Prof. Nasih added that there are still a lot of things in need of improvements. In the future, there will be more doctors, pprofessors, Scopus indexed international journal publication, laboratories’ instrument procurement, and unbound and outbound foreign students to UNAIR, or UNAIR students who continue their studies overseas.
“It used to be only a hundred, now we target about three hundred Scopus indexed journal publication. Professors will also involve students in their research. If the students succeed in publishing journal or other works, we are going to give incentives. So are the alumni,” said Prof. Nasih.
Therefore, UNAIR is the only university in eastern Indonesia which is in the big five of the best universities in Indonesia. In Asia, UNAIR is at the 190th. (*)
