UNAIR NEWS – As a part of the university Tri Dharma, collaborations between Universitas Airlangga and other institutions are being developed. This time, the collaboration was made with Gorontalo regency government, Gorontalo. The MoU signing was done on Monday, May 30 in Plenary meeting room, Management Office Building Campus C UNAIR.
UNAIR Rector Prof. Dr. Moh Nasih, SE., MT., Ak., MCA., welcomed well the cooperative plan between two institutions. In his address, Prof. Nasih said that UNAIR has a role to disseminate its products so it could be useful for the wider society.
Bupati Gorontalo, Prof. Dr. Ir. H. Nelson Pomalingo, M.Pd said that three months since he had assumed office, it was the first collaboration made by Pemkab Gorontalo with state university (PTN). UNAIR was chosen because of some considerations.
“Our considerations were because UNAIR is a big university, either from its academic capacity and science and technological development. Second, what we want to work on were all here, medical and veterinary,” said the professor who is also the rector of Universitas Muhammadiyah Gorontalo.
Besides, Prof Nelson admitted that he had cooperated with UNAIR before, when he was the Rector of Universitas Negeri Gorontalo term 2004-2010.
“I had an experience collaborating with UNAIR about seven years ago when I was still the Rector of Universitas Negeri Gorontalo. We signed and the action plan was made,” he said.
Collaborations between UNAIR and Pemkab Gorontalo was in many sectors, medical, fishery and animal husbandry, education and other fields.
In medical field, Prof Nelson said that right now, Pemkab Gorontalo has only one hospital. In the future, the government planned to build two more units of hospital. For that plan, excellent human resources are needed especially doctors and specialists.
“We need a master plan in medical field, and also human resources like doctors and specialists,” said Prof Nelson.
In education, Pemkab Gorontalo with universities in Gorontalo want to open a course on veterinary medicine. Prof. Nelson hoped that in the future UNAIR could provide human resources such as lecturers and instructors there.
Besides human resources in medical and education, Prof. Nelson said that Gorontalo also need integrated service on animal husbandry. Gorontalo has great potentials in that sector, about 80 thousands cows. But from that quantity, Pemkab Gororntalo only has 2 veterinarians.
After the MoU signing, there was a technical discussion between Gorontalo and UNAIR officials. UNAIR officials either the central or faculty, elaborated potentials possessed by UNAIR which are possible for future cooperation with Gorontalo government.
This collaboration will last for five years ahead. Next, the technical implementation will be done by related agencies in Pemkab Gorontalo with related faculties in UNAIR. Prof Nelson hoped that this July the collaboration will be executed.
“Hopefully, the agreed MoU will bring actions soon. UNAIR will affect positively to the regency development as it has many problems, such as poverty, low employments, low incomes, less technological engineering. With this cooperation, it will affect the advancement and prosperity development in Gorontalo,” said Prof. Nelson. (*)
