FKp Students Holds Community Service in Tambaksari

UNAIR NEWS – Community services  done by students in many kinds of activities. One of them was  GBGC (Gelar Bakti  GEN Corps) held by  BSO GEN Corps from Faculty of Nursing (FKp) UNAIR. This GBGC event was a program held annually. This 2016, GBGC was successfully held in Bogen Street, Ploso, Tambaksari sub-district RT 07 RW 04, Surabaya.

Bogen was chosen as the target of the activity because average inhabitants were medium class and lower class. The case of Diabetes Mellitus, uric acid, and Hypertension in the area were high.

“GBGC is an annual community service activity and an application of learning process in the organization. Besides, this activity is aimed to get closer to the community, to help and share,” said Amalia Khasanah as the head of GEN Corps.

This activity was held for two days, on May 21-22 2016. On the first day, the activity held was counseling on “Life free from hypertension, uric acid and diabetes mellitus”. The counseling was presented by Ery Yannata S.Kep.,Ns. In the counseling, there were 93 inhabitants were present and active asking to the speaker and facilitator on the topic. The event then followed with free health check up including blood sugar, uric acid, and also health education. The people waited in line patiently to get checked up and health education.

“The locals enthusiasm can be seen on how often they asked about the results of the check ups and also from the health education given during the event,” she said.

On the second day, GEN Corps with the locals held a fun walk. The event was followed almost by all Bogen inhabitants, including kids. Endri, one of the locals said that the activitu held by GEN Corps FKp UNAIR was really useful for the locals. With thecounseling and free check ups, the people can know the symptoms had by the locals.

“If we already knew the symptoms, we could get help right aaway in the hospital,” she said.

Representing RT.07 Endri also said that if there is a similar activity like this again, he hoped that it would be held there again. It was because the locals were pleased with the holding activity.

“On behalf of RT 07 I’d like to express our gratitude to GEN Corps for this activity in the  last two days,” he said.
