UNAIR NEWS – For the first time ever, since its establishment as student activity unit (UKM) in 2013, Orchestra UKM Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) held a concert entitled “Simfoni yang Indah”, on Saturday evening, May 21. The concert was held in ABC (Airlangga Business Center) Hall, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UNAIR. The long planned concert was attended by 300 audiences, either from UNAIR civitas academica or the public.
Chandra Dinata, the founder of Orchestra UKM UNAIR expressed his joy for this first concert by Orchestra UKM.
”It is our first concert since we started struggling for this community, January 15 2011, which was first named Airlangga Violinist Community because at that time only violinists joined. Then in 2013 officially became UKM, it has been three years since then,” said Chandra.
He hoped that Orchestra UKM UNAIR can be a place to learn and gather, either among members or UNAIR civitas academica. “The concert is about learning and strengthening ties,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dra. Sedianingsih, Ak., M.Si., the supervisor of Orchestra UKM, also hoped that the first concert can be a place to promote the community and invite other students to join. Because among the members, some of them are actually alumni or had graduated from UNAIR.

Even though it is a new UKM, but it has been trusted for few times to perform in important events such as UNAIR graduation. Outside UNAIR, this orchestra club was also invited to perform in Kompas Gramedia event in Pakuwon Trade Center (PTC) and HI-LO event in City of Tomorrow (Cito) Surabaya.
“Airlangga Orchestra is an UKM open to all. We want to introduce that orchestra is not always about classical music, attract youngsters to enjoy violin music. We hope that Airlangga Orchestra widely known especially in Surabaya,” said Cahya Trisady, Orchestra UKM UNAIR’s first concert field coordinator. (*)
