UNAIR NEWS – Being far away from home, from family for knowledge is what is felt by students who is studying out of town or even out of the country. But they also feel joy as they get a lot of friends coming from the same country. Meeting with them will provide support to make other activities, from establishing community, holding social event, to having a routine gathering. So do students of UNAIR from Malaysia. Their presence in Indonesia to gain knowledge made them want to hold a gathering to meet their fellow friends from the same country, Malaysian Night. The event was managed by Ahmad Naqib Bin Baharom, and it was held to gather all Malaysian students who are in Indonesia.
“The event was actually held to gather Malaysian students in Surabaya, but we thought we need to invite our friends in Yogjakarta, Malang, Bogor, and Jakarta,” said the student of Faculty of Medicine (FK) UNAIR International Class 2014.
As a gathering, the event held in Garden Palace last week was attended by some Malaysian officials. In addition to give advice, the invited officials were expected to be the connectors of collaborations between Malaysian and Indonesian universities especially UNAIR.
“We wanted them to know that Malaysian students are studying at UNAIR and some other campus in Indonesia, hopefully we can collaborate withuniversities in Malaysia,” he said.
The event held every two years, mixed some cultural values, from Malaysia and Indonesia. Some Indonesian from UNAIR were invited for cultural performances and vice versa.
“It invited Indonesian students and hopefully will make our relationship stronger,” he said.
There were about 150 students from Malaysia who are taking their bachelor program in Indonesia, exchange program, AMERTA program or international rogram. (*)
