UNAIR NEWS – There are many choices we have to make in life, as well as when we have to decide the future. In reality, some people believe that professions do not have to be in line with academic background. Some choose to have a success career in line with their academic background, but not few people try their lucks in other field.
Such as the stories of three doctors in an inspiring lecture Faculty of Medicine (FK) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) last time. Those three doctors were Vice Dean II FK UNAIR Prof. Dr. dr. Budi Santoso, Sp.OG, entrepreneur and young doctor Luqman Hakim Andira, S.Ked, and Head of BEM FK UNAIR previous term, Miftahurahman Taufiq. In front of dozens of students, those three shared their successful stories on their roles as doctors and entrepreneurs.
Long before his current success, Prof. Budi has had a wealth of experience. College was not a place for him to relax. Without disregarding his job as a medical student, Prof. Budi at that time also ran a business.
At that time, Prof. Budi ran clothes business. He sold his clothes until Banyuwangi. It was done in the evening by driving a pick up car. The next day, Prof. Budi returned to campus.
One of the audiences asked, “Didn’t you feel tired, Prof? At night, doing a commerce then took them out of town, while the next day back to classes.” Prof. Budi answered, ”If you want to be successful, you have to be willing to be tired.”
Success cannot be acquired instantly, Prof. Budi, when he was young, had tried many kinds of business. He worked with ups and downs. Through hardwork, Vice Dean II FK UNAIR now is an expert on obstetrics and gynecology and also successful with maternal and kids hospital in Surabaya.
According to Prof. Budi, doctors can develop their potentials. If a doctor realized their entrepreneurship inside, there is no harm in developing it. “You’re your social ability, one of them through entrepreneurship,” he said.
On the other hand, Lukman, a young doctor alumnus of FK UNAIR in 2015 has a unique business. It is called ‘Dokter Pentol’. Lukman had run the business with some of his colleagues.
This ‘Dokter Pentol’ business started when Lukman was still in college as a young doctor. He was inspired by his friends who had been busied by their activities and their schedule as attending doctors in hospital day and night. With that condition, Lukman initiated to make meatballs and packaged instantly as snacks and sold to his friends.
His objective was to help his friends get healthy and fulfilling snacks in their busy time.
To run his business, Lukman and his team had to shop for meat and ingredients early in the morning. Before going to campus, they cooked the meat to be meatballs and then sold. Even though it was a small scale business, it quite helped them. At least, Lukman had been able to identify an opportunity in his daily routine and use it for business.
Head of BEM FK UNAIR Rachmat Agung Widodo said that, this inspiring lecture is a new agenda of the new BEM. He hoped that it could give the students insights and inspirations. Though this inspiring lecture, the committee invite extraordinary figures from FK UNAIR. (*)
