UNAIR Gives 190 Students Scholarships

UNAIR NEWS – As a form of University Tri Dharma realization, Directorate of Student Affairs Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) has given scholarships to 190 students of elementary schools in Mulyorejo sub-district, Surabaya. The awarding event was held on Wednesday, May 18 in Management Office Building UNAIR and attended by representatives of eleven schools.

Scholarships were given directly by Vice Rector I, Prof. Djoko Santoso, dr., Sp.PD-KGH., Ph.D.,  with Director of Student Affairs UNAIR Dr. M. Hadi Subhan, SH., MH., CN., to the teachers representative and headmasters of the schools.

Eleven schools which get the scholarships were SDN Mulyorejo I-237, SDN Manyar Sabrangan I/229, SDN Manyar Sabrangan II/231, SDN Kalijudan I/239, SDN Kalijudan II/559, SDN Kalisari I/240, SDN Kalisari I II/513, SDN Kejawen Putih I/234, SDN Sutorejo I/240, SD Hidayatul Ummah, and SD Al Huda. The total scholarship given was Rp 76 million.

This scholarships are given routinely by UNAIR  to SD students around Campus C, Mulyorejo. Hadi said that they are given to financially challenged students, but they have excellent academic achievements.

“It is our responsibility morally, as a part of University Tri Dharma. We blend with the society by improving our concern through scholarships awarding,” said Hadi.

Meanwhile, in his speech in front of the teachers, Prof. Djoko said that those scholarships were forms of UNAIR’s concern especially to community around campus.

“Specifically, the scholarships awarding is a way to develop our young generation with potentials to be leaders of the nation. May these scholarships can be UNAIR tradition to show its concern to community around the campus,” said the professor on Internal Medicine, Faculty of Medicine (FK) UNAIR.

Each student awarded scholarship has been selected by Regional Technical Holding Unit (UPTD) Surabaya II. Drs. Suwono, M.Si as the Head of Regional Education Agency Surabaya said that the awarded students were the ones with irregular income, orphans or the ones who only live with their moms.

Drs. Mat Sudjak, a coordinator of headmasters UPTD Surabaya II, also the headmaster of SDN. Mulyorejo I-237 hoped that the scholarships can be useful for the students especially for them who want to continue study. (*)
