UKM Karate Gets Medals, Uses Limitation as Trigger to Achievement

UNAIR NEWS – Limitation was not an obstacle for Karate student club (UKM Karate) to make achievements. UKM which is still quite new and doe s not have a base camp keeps getting medals such as in regional championship in East Java UNESA CUP 1 2016, held from April 30 to May 1.

In the event which was held in Gelanggang Pemuda, UNESA Lidah Wetan, Surabaya, UNAIR contingent succeeded in getting medals, 3 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 3 bronze medals.

Gold medals were achieved from categories of Kata Female Individual Exhibition, Kata Female Team and Kumite Male Team. The silver medals were from Kumite Male -67 Kg and Kumite Female 67 + Exhibition, while the bronze medals were from Kata Male Team, Kumite Male -87 Kg and Kata Female Single. With the achievements, UKM which also succeeded in Danpasmar Championship held from April 8-10 was named as the Runner Up.

“May this achievement motivates us to be better in the future,” said Isnaini Rahmawati, one of the athletes of UKM Karate who got a silver medal.

Training ground and equipments, and a secretariat limitation will not break their spirits. They practice routinely even though they have to carry their own equipments.

“Having no secretariat makes us wait in SC. Sometimes we get wet because of the rain. Great spirit of the members did not make the limitation be obstacles,” she said. (*)
