Science Awards for Healthcare Researches

UNAIR NEWS  – On Tuesday, April 19, Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) hosted an event held by PT. Kalbe Farma Tbk. (Kalbe) cooperated with the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti).The event was a forum with a theme “Optimalisasi dan Komersialisasi Hasil Penelitian untuk Meningkatkan Daya Saing Bangsa (Optimization and Commercialization of Research Product to Improve Nation’s Competitiveness”. The discussion forum held in Kahuripan Hall, UNAIR Management Office was a part of Ristekditi-Kalbe Science Awards program (RKSA).

As speakers, Dr. Muhammad Dimyati (General Director Research and Development Reinforcement, Kemenristekdikti), Prof. dr. Singgih Riphat (Main Researcher of Economics and Finance, Fiscal Policy Agency), Dr. Purwati (Secretary of Regenerative and Stem Cell Medical Center, Dr. Soetomo Hospital), and FX Widiyatmo (Head of Business Devolepment PT. Kalbe Farma Tbk), moderated by  Dr. Agus Zainal Arifin, S.Kom., M.Kom (Finalist of Best Research Award 2014, ITS).

RKSA is held once in two years, and it has been held five times since 2008. This program is a reward program to best researchers contributing actively in research and development field especially on medical and biology.

“It is part of Kalbe’s contribution to support the researchers to keep conducting research, as an effort to improve the nation’s competitiveness. The program was meant to encourage the researchers in Indonesia to be more productive in research as a contribution to community’s health,” said Herda, the representative of PT. Kalbe.

The event was aimed to appreciate Indonesian researchers who have dedication and work hard to produce results in their health researches. The research fields meant included Drugs Availability (Biotechnology, Medical Chemistry, Biochemistry/ Pharmaceutical Technology), Diagnostic and Method of Treatment, also Functional Food. The targets are all researchers either from government or private companies.

Prof. Mochammad Amin Alamsjah, Ir., M.Si., Ph.D,hoped that the program can encourage the researchers in UNAIR to be  more active in their researches.

“We wanted this program to be carried on with others, so that it can be applied in the life of the nation and country,” said Prof Amin.

This year, for Best Research Awards, best first researcher will get Rp 100 million, the second Rp 75 million and the third Rp 50 million. While for Young Scientist Award , one researcher will get Rp 75 million. All winners will also get funding priority through SINAS Kemenristekdikti. The due date for registration and submission is June 3 2016.

Usually, problems faced by researchers were the late disbursement of funds. In the occasion, Dimyati stated that Kemenristekdikti will make sure it will not happen.

“Don’t worry, the fund is coming out in the beginning of the year. Unlike before. What the researchers want, will provide,” said Dimyati.

Lifestyle Product Mostly Sought

In this occasion, FX Widiyatmo stated that health product researches mostly sought depends on the people’s need.

“In the future, it is predicted that diseases which appear mostly are closely related to lifestyle. Mostly will be diseases related to stress. How can researchers create products related to lifestyle or habit. Not only to cure but to prevent,” said Widiyatmo. (*)
