UNAIR RADIO – Problems of garbage still draw the public attention. Various environmental movements were conducted to deal with them. According to Indonesian Law Number 18 of 2008 on waste management, on February 21 the government implemented plastic bag policy. The objective was to reduce the plastic bag waste.
Regarding the matter, some UNAIR students were inspired to innovate and create a reuseable bag as the plastic bag replacement. Their work at first was from a campus orientation assignment to make a student creativity program. The idea of Indah Novitasari ( Accounting 2015), Miftakhul Jannah (Accounting 2015), Aldian Alif Fitria (English 2015) , Ma’shumatul Kurnia (Islamic Economy 2014), and Aida fitriya(Nursing 2013) created reusable bag as their concern to environment.
This innovation was named KARB or Ksatria Airlangga Reusable Bag. As their pride of being called that way and hopefully to be the pioneer of UNAIR students to use the bags.
KARB has many excellent points, such as water-proof, strong (able to carry 7kg of weight) and can be folded well. At the moment they are offered in three designs. With notes #IndonesiaBebasSampah, Aku Diet Tas Kresek, and I’m Okay Without Plastic. For promotion, KARB team exploits social medias and plans road shows in UNAIR and PDD Banyuwangi.
“We hope that we can be trendsetter for all UNAIR students,” said Miftah, in the marketing division of KARB.
On April 7, KARB team was on air in UNAIR Radio for SAGA segment to introduce their innovation. Here is the podcast. (*)
