General Directorate Dikti Publicizes Clinical Lecturer Policy

UNAIR NEWS – General Director on Resources, Science, Technology and Higher Education of the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemenristek Dikti), Prof. dr. Ali Ghufron Mukti, M.Sc., Ph.D, held a publicization titled “Publicization on Clinical Lecturers’ Career” in front of lecturers’ from Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Airlangga and Universitas Islam Malang. Publicization was held in UNAIR Hospital Hall on Thursday, March 17. UNAIR high officials, Rector, Vice Rector I and II, Hospital Director, and Dean of Faculty of Medicine (FK UNAIR) were present.

In the same occasion, Dean of FK UNAIR, Prof. Dr. Soetojo, dr., Sp.U, during interview said that almost all lecturers of FK UNAIR are clinical lecturers while some others are academic lecturers approved by Kemenristek Dikti.

“So that they have career progression, they have to apply for Special Lecturer Registration Number (NIDK). It is currently developed. It’s easy to apply, only it depends on each individual. We should encourage them to improve themselves,” said Prof. Soetojo.

From 200 lecturers of FK UNAIR, there are only 4 of them which were approved by Dikti. The dean added that the regulations for NIDK application was often changed by Dikti.

“Application they proposed were rejected as it was not complete. It was caused by Dikti’s regulation which keeps changing. Some of them were even asked to give their registration number when they were students and so on,” said the professor of Urology FK UNAIR.
In response to this, Ghufron promised to process NIDK application from FK UNAIR. “A month is the longest. Please remind me,” said Ghufron.

“We are trying to give acknowledgement through this registration number breakhthrough so they can process their career progression until the level of professors, as long as they meet the requirement and recommendation. It is at least valid in 2016. In UNAIR only, they can reach 200. In Indonesia there are 74 faculties of medicine, so there are about 1400-1500 NIDK,” said General Director of Dikti.

NIDK is a government policy aimed to achieve adequacy of student –lecturer ratio. University can apply NIDK for a lecturer coming from practitioners with teaching ability. One profession which can provide teachings is doctor. By having NIDK, a lecturer can have career progression until the level of professors as he meet the requirements formulated by Kemenristek Dikti.
