More Than 8.000 Students Participate in DENTINE 2016

UNAIR NEWS – More than 8,000 senior high schools students from many regions of Indonesia participated in Dentistry Intellectual Challenge or DENTINE this year. With the recorded number of participants, DENTINE has been FKG UNAIR Student Executive Board’s event with the most participants. This year, 2016, was the seventh time of DENTINE accomplishment.

DENTINE has held series of events, science Olympiad, essay competition, basketball and futsal competition and graphic design competition. The materials of the Olympiad included mathematics, physics, biology, chemistry, and basic dentistry.

“Almost all competitions promote latest innovations in dentistry. The objective was to facilitate senior high school students who are going to continue study to universities. We wanted to promote UNAIR and our faculty,” said the Head of DENTINE 2016 committee, Rahmad Rifqi Fahreza.

Qualification rounds were held on Sunday, February 14 simultaneously in 18 venues all around Indonesia. The semifinals, finals and grandfinal were held on February 20 – 21 2016 in FKG UNAIR.

Sunday, February 21, the winners for science and essay competitions were announced in RK A FKG UNAIR. The participants were enthusiastic for the winners announcement.

Late afternoon the winners were announced. SMAN 1 Trenggalek got 1st place, SMA Karang Turi, Semarang was 2nd place and the 3rd place was MAN 3 Malang. Faculty officials, lecturers, and representatives of Indonesian Dentist Association (PDGI) were present to witness the winners announcement and award the prizes.

“The objective is to improve the quality of students who continue studies in FKG. We can also promote FKG this way. This year, we did not only have Olympiad and essay competition but also sports competition. Next year we’re going to hold open house and lectures. The most important thing is not the quantity of the participants but the quality of future applicants,” said the Dean of FKG UNAIR, DR. R. Darmawan Setijanto, drg., M.Kes in explaining DENTINE.

Darmawan also expected that DENTINE could be useful to anyone involved, and also made FKG be popular.

“Long term objective is the highest human resources quality. So, dentists’ quality will improve and Indonesian people health level will also improve,”he said. (*)
