UNAIR NEWS – Civitas academica of Nutritional Science FKM UNAIR held a social service in Mulyorejo Surabaya on Friday, February 12. The event was the continuation of a national seminar held by Health Nutrition Department FKM UNAIR and PERGIZI.
The social service was divided into three activities, a counseling on breastfeeding accompanying food (MPASI), kids’ growth measurement and health checks. All of the activities were free of charged. There were 30 three-year-old babies and mothers attended.
Nutritional Science Program Coordinator from FKM UNAIR, Lailatul Muniroh, S.KM., M.Kes, said that this social service was conducted so that UNAIR can be useful to the surrounding communities. In this event, every baby got snacks such as macaroni schotel and fruit pudding. Each mother can serve the menu routinely.
“People with financial shortages can also make the meals. In addition, the menu can be substituted with other food provision. Mothers’ creativity and willingness to make the MPASI menu should be improved,” said a lecturer from Health Nutrition Department on Metabolic Diseases.
Riana, one of the cadre of Posyandu in the local village administration, said that she was happy with the event. She also said that Mulyorejo kids’ nutrition condition was varied. Some of them were with good nutrition and others were need more nutrition. Riana also stated that Posyandu routinely holds the same activity once in two weeks.
“There were many mothers working out of the house. So, their kids are taken care in a baby day care. The problem was if the baby were left there, our nutrition is not guaranteed. Thus, we were helped by the counseling held by UNAIR, said Riana.
Binti, one of the mothers showed enthusiasm. “I will try to do what had been counseled related to breastfeeding accompanying menu at home,” Binti said. (*)
