UNAIR NEWS – Precisely 370 alumni of Universitas Airlangga Faculty of Medicine (FK UNAIR) from 1997, 1998 and 1998 batches engraved their names on Alumni Inscription Wall FK UNAIR inaugurated by FK UNAIR Dean, Prof. Dr. Soetojo, dr., Sp.U(K) attended by UNAIR Rector Prof. Dr. H. Mohammad Nasih, MT., SE., Ak.
With this inauguration of three batches names, the inscription is getting more complete as all the names of alumni since the first batch in NIAS (Netherlands Indische Artsen School – the origins of FK UNAIR) era in 1923 have been engraved. NIAS was established in 1913.
As we know, this FK alumni instription wall was made for them who finished their study at the campus. So, automatically the wall contains NIAS graduates (since 1923), Djakarta Ika Dai gaku graduates, and FK UNAIR graduates. This wall was the initiative of eight FK UNAIR alumni, dr. Indropo Agusni, dr. Fery Hudowo Soedewo, dr. Rowena G. Hoesin, dr. Hendy M. Koesnoeljakin, dr. Herainy Hartono Mintohardjo, dr. Sidarti S. Satjadibrata, dr. Irma D.A. Lasmono, and dr. Elyana Suhartono Asnar. The inscription wall was inaugurated on May 25, 2002.
The Head of Alumni Association (IKA) FK UNAIR Dr. Pudjo Hartono, dr., Sp.OG(K) said that the alumni should be grateful for their names in inscription. He also encouraged his colleagues to always remember their alma mater, keep their names and the profession untarnished, and support anyone to make achievements.
Similar things stated by FK UNAIR Dean Prof. Dr. Soetojo, dr., Sp.U(K). He expected FK Alumni also contributed in supporting their alma mater as an effort to reach 500 Top World Universities. Thus, FK is always ready to support the advancement to the target as FK UNAIR is one of the place where researchers reside.
”To conduct activities, especially scientific activities, researchers should report it to the faculty, and the faculty will publish it to the society,” said the professor of Urology from FK UNAIR.
UNAIR Rector Prof. Moh Nasih in his address also appreciated the tradition of engraving alumni names on the wall. “Don’t worry about running out of space. If it is needed we can build a twin tower special for the alumni names,” he said.
The idea of this inscription have at least two meanings. First, historically it will remind the alumni, wherever they are to always remember to the alma mater. Second, alumni names engraved will always feel responsible and honour the names of the good name of the alma mater. Furthermore, the alumni presence is also important for university ranking, regarding the employer reputation.
”For that reason, I deliver this message to the alumni to also contribute in improving the alma mater, so the good and the bad, the advancement of the university can be seen from its alumni and professionals,”the Rector said. (*)
